Snapvine to be acquired by Whitepages.com

Today we have reached a very exciting milestone with our company. We're proud to announce that we've decided to sell Snapvine to WhitePages.com.

Over the past nearly 3 years, we've focused on a core mission of bridging the mobile world with the web and in the process we've created a very powerful technology platform and set of consumer services that are enjoyed by millions of users online. Also, we've built an incredibly talented and passionate team.

By joining WhitePages.com, we'll be able to help their 40 million unique visitors per month not only find, but also connect, to the more than 180 million people on WhitePages.com.

We have no immediate plans to alter the Snapvine brand or services, and we expect to have several very exciting announcements over the next several months.  Please read the press release or WhitePages.com's blog post about the acquisition.

Picture_46 Snapvine Launches Social Media API

Voice and viral sharing features available to over 7 million people through the Snapvine Publisher API

SEATTLE, WA (PRWEB) April 9, 2008 – Snapvine, Inc., a leader in enabling voice applications on the web, has introduced the Snapvine Application Programming Interface (API) (www.snapvine.com/api) allowing publishers to easily add engaging voice and viral sharing features to practically any website.

The API, which is publicly available starting today, launches on nine websites including top 10 blog icanhascheezburger.com, and fast growing photo sharing sites My Photo Album and Picture Trail, providing voice and viral sharing features to over 7 million unique visitors per month.

The Snapvine API, now freely available at www.snapvine.com/api utilizes lightweight JavaScript that can be implemented in a minimal amount of time and gives website owners immediate benefits:

  • Increased engagement by allowing users to add their voice to any photo or text element, through the mic on their computer or by dialing a telephone number from one of 15 supported countries.
  • Viral distribution of content with a ‘share’ button for users to easily post photos and voice content to MySpace, Facebook, or other web sites.
  • Increased site traffic and enhanced SEO (search engine optimization) via a branded link on all shared content that takes users back to the originating website.
  • Quick and easy client-side integration with media hosting and bandwidth provided by Snapvine.

“The Snavpine API is extremely easy to integrate and allowed us to effortlessly add a new personalization and social media sharing features for our customers,” said Peter MacNee, My Photo Album’s President and CEO.

The Snapvine Publisher API is built on top of the same robust platform that powers Snapvine’s consumer offerings. The Snapvine Voice Player launched in 2007, has over 7 million registered users and is a top widget on MySpace.  Over 400 million audio plays and 20 million calls have been processed through the Snapvine data center.

Snapvine is initially releasing the API with nine launch partners including, icanhascheezburger.com, PictureTrail.com, MyPhotoAlbum.com, Musez.tv, Picture2Life.com, Floago.com.br, Saloneconnection.com, Shelfari.com and Simplebucket.com.

“We are very excited to share our technology and platform in an API that is as easy to use as Google Ad Sense, and lets website owners offer engaging voice and viral sharing features .” said Joe Heitzeberg, co-founder and CEO of Snapvine. “I’m looking forward to seeing the creative ways our technology will be used.”

Community Policing
You made it clear that you'd like ways to report inappropriate content and help protect younger Snapviners.  Today, we're launching "flag" links so that everyone can help us uphold basic standards and rid the community of inappropriate content such as harassment and porn.  "Mature content" warnings weren't quite ready yet, but they're coming soon.

Tons of other goodies...

We've made lots of other improvements such as new share buttons, added support for RSS/i-tunes and the ability to remove subscribers.  Surf around and see how many you can find.
